The Ultimate Marathon Man

The Ultimate Marathon Man

One man’s attempt to push the limit of ultra marathon running. This was the challenge of a lifetime for Edinburgh doctor and ultra-marathon runner Andrew Murray.

With minimal support, and in the middle of winter, he planned to run an ultra marathon every day, from the tip of Scotland to the Sahara desert. If successful he would create a new ultra-marathon running record - the equivalent of 100 marathons run end to end – and not a single day off to recover. As a medic, Andrew knew exactly what that would do to his body … and it wasn’t good news.

Attempting to cram in a staggering 8000 calories every day is extremely difficult and doesn’t stop the body from beginning to break down. The constant pounding on hard roads and pavements would inevitably take its toll on muscles and joints, so why do it?

This film answers the question and offers a gripping insight into what drives an extreme athlete to break new ground and to support a charity he deeply cares about.

Harris - A Hebridean Heartland

Harris - A Hebridean Heartland

Set in the heart of the Outer Hebrides, the Isle of Harris is a landscape rich in culture, history and the Gaelic language. Home to some of Britain’s most important wildlife, it is a naturalist’s paradise.

In this special DVD we celebrate the people who live and work on the edge of western Europe – from traditional crofters and craftspeople to those developing new skills for the future.

We learn of plans to protect the UK’s most impressive raptor – the golden eagle, and hear why the people of North Harris believe it’s important to own the land on which they live and work. We also look at some of the age old skills, from boat building to fishing to tweed production, and listen to the music of the Hebrides, from traditional psalm-singing to the heart moving songs of the Gael.

Above all we learn that Harris is an island of immense natural beauty with a strong and ambitious community, determined to protect the old traditions while embracing the benefits of twenty-first century life.
