Volume 1: From Oban to Ullapool
Cameron McNeish's hugely popular television films celebrate the best of Scotland with a spectacular route by campervan, packraft, on bike and foot through Scotland’s magnificent West Highlands. Take this journey slowly and enjoy every minute. It is an exploration into the hidden corners of what Cameron says is a world class landscape and an opportunity to meet some of the people who live and work there.
Cameron’s expedition starts 20 miles south of Oban. He visits three stunning, but lesser known islands - Luing, Seil and Lismore, before winding his way through one of Scotland’s most famous landscapes, Glen Coe. Venturing west he meets musical legend Fergie MacDonald, universally known as the Ceilidh King. In a journey full of surprises Cameron heads for the rugged lands of Moidart before taking to the water at Arisaig with expert kayaker Lizzie Benwell for a paddle round the dozens of skerries that make this part of the west coast so distinctive.
The final part of the journey explores the finest parts of the west coast: a visit to the remote Sleat peninsula of Skye where 1,000 people still live; a walk into the rugged Kintail mountains with National Trust for Scotland ranger, Willie Fraser and then on to the wild coastline of Torridon with Lord Smith of Finsbury, who was the first MP to climb all Scotland’s Munros. The final leg sees Cameron on the long shore of Loch Maree and its little visited islands, before investigating the isolated Melvaig peninsula. Journey’s end is high above Ullapool.
This is a revised version of the programmes first shown on BBC Scotland.
Running time: approximately 115 minutes.

Roads Less Travelled Vol 2 - Sutherland, Caithness & Orkney
Available now!
Scotland’s best known outdoors man, Cameron McNeish, undertakes a 150 mile journey through some of the least visited parts of Scotland from the southern end of Sutherland to the northern tip of the Orkney islands. Travelling on foot, by bike and with his beloved campervan, he explores the culture and history that has shaped his homeland and celebrates some of the finest landscapes to be found anywhere.
Cameron begins his journey through eastern Sutherland before entering the wild open spaces and remote flow country of Caithness. During this first part of his trip, he discovers that while some people were forcibly evicted from their land, others voluntarily chose to seek a new life half a world away in South America. Today this is a landscape of wild, untamed beauty.
After taking the ferry north Cameron celebrates the lesser known aspects of 6 Orkney islands - South Ronaldsay, Hunda, Orkney mainland, Rousay, Sanday and, at the furthest tip of this archipelago, North Ronaldsay. His guests include those whose families have lived here for generations to relative newcomers who have made the journey north to become part of a vibrant community. No visit to Orkney would be complete without exploring the rich archaeological remains found here, but Cameron also meets two exceptionally talented traditional musicians; discovers why these islands are so environmentally important, and spends time with a former lighthouse keeper turned beachcomber and a visitor who is attempting an unusual world record.
Running time: approximately 117 minutes.
